American Mathematics Competition 8 (replaced AJHSME) or AMC 8 (Grade 7 and Grade 8) is the first step toward the International Math Olympiad in the United States (USAMO). Outstanding students participate in this festival of mathematics every year to test their mettle. We provide an opportunity for students to develop positive attitudes toward analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. If you join us, you will never regret it. We have the best educators, a tremendous helping team, excellent online support, and hassle-free learning. Level 1 contains 10 questions Level 2 contains 15 questions Level 3 contains 20 questions Level 4 contains 25 questions Course Duration: January 18, 2023 to January 24, 2023 Here are a few examples of course problems with their solutions. Question 1: On February 13, The Oshkosh Northwester listed the length of daylight as 10 hours and 24 minutes. The sunrise was at 6:57 AM, and the sunset was listed as 8:15 PM. The length of daylight and sunrise were correct, but the sunset was wrong. When did the sun really set? (A) 5:10 PM (B) 5:21 PM (C) 5:41 PM (D) 5:57 PM (E) 6:03 PM Answer: The problem asks us to find the time of sunset using the given length of daylight and the time of sunrise. We add 10 hours and 24 minutes to 6:57 AM. 6:57 AM + 10 hours = 4:57 PM 4:57 PM + 24 minutes = 5:21 PM So, the correct answer is (B) 5:21 PM. Problem 2: Isabella must take four 100-point tests in her math class. Her goal is to achieve an average grade of 95 on the tests. Her first two test scores were 97 and 91. After seeing her score on the third test, she realized she can still reach her goal. What is the lowest possible score she could have made on the third test? (A) 90 (B) 92 (C) 95 (D) 96 (E) 97 Solution: Isabella wants an average grade of 95 on her 4 tests, which means she needs a total score of: 95 × 4 = 380 Her first two test scores total: 97 + 91 = 188 So she still needs: 380 − 188 = 192 points To minimize the score on the third test, we assume Isabella will score the maximum 100 on the fourth test: 192 − 100 = 92 Therefore, the lowest possible score on the third test is (B) 92.
